Commodity Tips and Updates for 24 March 2015

Stock Market News: Crude oil futures fell in the domestic market on Monday as a rise in the Indian rupee against the US dollar more than offset the gains witnessed in the energy commodity in the overseas market. A stronger rupee tends to exert downward pressure in the fuel in the domestic market. Further, Saudi Arabian Oil Minister Ali al-Naimi said that the Saudi Kingdom is pumping nearly 10 million barrels of oil per day, which is close to a record, signaling worries over a worsening global supply glut. US economic data came in mixed as sales of existing homes rose last month while a gauge of national activity fell, clouding the demand outlook for the fuel in the world’s biggest crude consumer. US sales of existing homes climbed 1.2 per cent to a 4.88 million annual rate in February 2015 while the Chicago Fed National Activity index fell to -0.11 in February from -0.10 in January, with a reading below 0 signaling contraction.

Crude futures may extend losses today ahead of data which may show that US crude supplies rose from over a three decade high last week. At the MCX, Crude oil futures, for the April 2015 contract, closed at Rs 2,930 per barrel, down by 0.61 per cent, after opening at Rs 2,930, against the previous close price of Rs 2,948. It touched an intraday low of Rs 2,859 till the closing.

Mcx Commodity Updates and Stock Market Free Tips for 18 March 2015

Stock Market News: Crude oil futures increased in the domestic market on Tuesday as investors and speculators booked fresh positions in the energy commodity as a weaker dollar boosted the demand for oil as an alternative asset. Weaker greenback makes crude cheaper for those holding other currencies, thus boosting demand. However, the gains in the fuel were curbed by an uptick in US oil stockpiles last week which signaled a weakening demand for the fuel in the world’s biggest crude consumer. US crude supplies climbed 10.5 million barrels last week, the American Petroleum Institute (API) said.

Further, US housing starts plunged at the sharpest pace since 2011 last month, signaling a faltering housing market recovery in the world’s biggest economy, dimming the demand outlook for the fuel. Starts fell 17 per cent to an annualized rate of 897,000 in February 2015 from the previous month. Crude oil may fall today ahead of EIA data which may show that US stockpiles surged to a fresh record last week, threatening to worsen a global supply glut. At the MCX, Crude oil futures, for the March 2015 contract, closed at Rs 2,759 per barrel, up by 0.66 per cent, after opening at Rs 2,754, against the previous close price of Rs 2,741. Gold futures closed higher in the domestic market on Friday as the sharp depreciation of the Indian rupee against the US dollar exerted upward pressure on prices of the bullion in the domestic market; more than offsetting the flat closing in the overseas market. The yellow metal closed little changed in the overseas market on Friday as investors and speculators shied away from booking fresh positions in the bullion as a stronger dollar curbed the demand for gold as an alternative asset. Stronger greenback makes gold more expensive for those holding other currencies, thus dimming demand.

Caution ahead of the US Federal Reserve’s policy meet this week where the Fed may drop the word “patient” over monetary tightening, and probably signal a rate hike towards the middle of the year also curbed the demand for the bullion as a store of value. Meanwhile, US wholesale prices fell for a fourth straight month, down 0.5 per cent in February, dimming the bullion’s appeal as a hedge against inflation. Gold may fall today as investors stick to a cautious stance ahead of the FOMC meet this week. Natural Gas futures rebounded from Thursday’s sharp losses, on Friday, in the domestic market, amid bargain buying by investors and speculators, at existing levels. The Commodity Weather Group expects above-normal temperatures across the contiguous states through March 17, 2015. Zinc futures ended higher in the domestic market on Friday as investors and speculators booked fresh positions in the industrial metal amid a pickup in physical demand for zinc in the domestic spot market. Further, China, the world’s biggest metals consumer, indicated that it may undertake more measures to boost economic growth and lift consumption from consumers and businesses, bolstering the demand outlook for industrial metals. The country’s Premier Li Keqiang said that there are “more tools in our toolbox” to address flagging growth and lift employment.
