Natural Gas Plunges Ahead of Storage Data

Natural Gas futures tumbled by more than 1.5 per cent during noon trade in the domestic market on Thursday as investors and speculators resorted to a cautious stance ahead of weekly US storage numbers which may show that US gas supplies fell by 159 billion cubic feet last week, compared to a five-year average withdrawal of 165 billion cubic feet.
 
Further, forecasts for warmer-than-normal temperatures in the US over the next two weeks, threatened to curb the need for the heating fuel at offices and homes.
 
About 49 per cent of US households use natural gas for heating purposes. November to March is the peak US gas heating season.
 
At the MCX, Natural Gas futures for February 2016 contract is trading at Rs 136.4 per mmBtu, down by 1.87 per cent, after opening at Rs 138.8, against the previous closing price of Rs 139. It touched an intra-day low of 136.4.

Natural Gas Extends Rally over 3 % During Noon Trade


Natural Gas futures surged by over 3 per cent during noon trade in the domestic market on Friday as investors and speculators booked fresh positions in the energy commodity as traders gave thumbs up to last week’s US inventory data which showed a bigger than expected withdrawal of 211 billion cubic feet in gas supplies as cold weather boosted gas-fired heating demand, eroding record high storage levels.

The five-year average for the week ended January 22, 2016 stood at around 170 billion cubic feet, and last year’s withdrawal for the week totaled 115 billion cubic feet.
 
At the MCX, Natural Gas futures for February 2016 contract is trading at Rs 154.5 per mmBtu, up by 3.62 per cent, after opening at Rs 150.5, against the previous closing price of Rs 149.1. It touched an intra-day high of 154.9.

Natural Gas Tanks over 1% on Bearish Weather Outlook

Natural Gas surges nearly 6% on upbeat storage data

Natural Gas futures soared in the domestic and overseas market on Thursday as investors and speculators booked fresh positions in the energy commodity as a bigger than expected dip in US storage levels last week signaled a pickup in heating demand for the fuel as cold weather resulted in higher consumption of gas-fired electricity at offices and homes in the world’s biggest economy.
 
           The EIA reported that US gas supplies fell by 113 billion cubic feet to 3.643 trillion cubic feet in the week ended January 1, 2016, against expectations of an inventory withdrawal of 99 billion cubic feet and a prior week’s drawdown of 58 billion cubic feet. US storage withdrawal was 116 billion cubic feet in the same period a year ago while the five-average dip was 129 billion cubic feet. At the MCX, Natural Gas futures for January 2016 contract closed at Rs 160.9 per mmBtu, up by 5.92 per cent, after opening at Rs 152.8, against the previous closing price of Rs 151.9.It touched an intra-day high of Rs 161.3.

Natural Gas Retreats On Profit Booking

Natural Gas futures succumbed to profit booking in the domestic market in late morning trade on Tuesday following the nearly 9 per cent surge in recent sessions when forecasts for colder weather across the US Midwest in the coming days, raised hopes of a pickup in gas-fired heating demand at offices and homes in the world’s biggest gas consuming nation.  About 49 per cent of US households use natural gas for heating purposes. Natural Gas Rallies Ahead of Storage Data

Natural Gas ended higher in the domestic market on Wednesday as investors and speculators booked fresh positions in the energy commodity tracking a firm trend in the international market as traders looked ahead to weekly inventory data set for release on 05 Nov, which may indicate the strength of demand for the fuel in the world’s biggest fuel consumer.

The EIA may say on Thursday that US gas supplies probably rose 60 billion cubic feet in the week ended October 30, below the prior week’s 63 billion cubic feet injection and compared to a 91 billion cubic feet build in the same period a year ago and a 68 billion cubic feet five-year average increase.
 
 
November to March is the peak US gas heating season. About 49% cent of US households use natural gas for heating purposes.

Natural Gas logs Mild Gains Despite Mild Weather Outlook

NaturalGas futures posted mild to modest gains in the domestic market on Tuesday even as forecasts for mild weather in the US in the coming days threatened to curb heating demand for the energy commodity.

Latest updates from the Global Weather Forecast System showed that temperatures in the lower 48 US states would be cool but will remain above-normal levels over the next two weeks, reducing the need for gas-fired heating in the world’s biggest economy.

About 49 per cent of US households use natural gas for heating purposes.

At the MCX, Natural Gas futures for October 2015 contract closed at 161.2 Rs per mmBtu, up by 0.25 per cent, after opening at Rs 161.3, against the previous closing price of Rs 160.8. It touched an intra-day high of Rs 163.3.
